Castleton Festival

The Castleton Festival is a place where the future meets the present - the future stars of the opera and concert worlds are nurtured by its present stars who make guest appearances and serve as mentors. Started by the world renowned Lorin Maazel, it is held in July. The opera portion is followed by a summer Jazz Academy led by Wynton Marsalis. More information about the Castleton Festival

Wine Tasting

Sperryville is surrounded by several award-winning wineries that offer tastings and tours. Pick up a wine map and enjoy a day of gazing at the countryside bounded by mountains and tasting the fruits of the vintners’ labor. Feel free to ask for directions and recommendations during or in advance of your stay.

Tour our local Distillery

Sperryville is home to Copper Fox Distillery, which makes Wasmund's Single Malt Whisky and Copper Fox Rye Whisky and Vir Gin, among other specialty options.  The distillery tour, offered multiple times daily, is educational and lots of fun! You can also do some tasting and shopping during your visit.

Scenic country roads around Sperryville offer lots of riding options.  Your innkeepers can recommend routes as short or as long as you like.

Art and Antique Shopping

The village of Sperryville and its surrounding area feature art and antique shopping, along with other small shops. The old Main Street has been recognized by the National Register as an Historic Village.  Whether you are interested in paintings, drawings, pottery, glassware or photography, Sperryville offers it all. Many of the artists call Rappahannock County home and feature it in their art.

The nearby town of Washington has many shops and art galleries and we highly recommend it as a beautiful place to stroll.

Haley Fine Art and Sperryville Pottery

Just across the street from Hopkins Ordinary, Haley Fine Art features regional art and fine crafts.  They also offer custom picture framing, art appraisal, design, delivery and installation services.  At Sperryville Pottery, Suzanne and her mother create some of the finest pottery you'll find anywhere.  Also check out their classes and summer camp.

Knit Wit Yarn Shop

Featuring local yarns, creative gift ideas and classes.

Copper Fox Antiques

This 1930s apple packinghouse and cold storage has been converted to a large antique and furniture market with over 30,000 square feet of primitives, victorian, early American, and 20th century furniture.

Farm Visits

Nearby farms offer tours and opportunities to pick your own fruit in season: berries, apples, peaches, pumpkins. Many of the farms are organic and/or feature sustainable farming methods. Talk to the farmer and enjoy the seasons through the fresh local food.  Waterpenny Farm is a nearby farm with a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Heritage Hollow Farms has their farm store about a half-mile from Hopkins Ordinary and offers grass-fed beef, pork, and lamb.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Canoeing, kayaking, tubing and rafting are available on the nearby Shenandoah and Rapidan River. We can help direct you to the outfitters.

Luray Caverns is less than half an hour away, and other caverns are nearby.

There are a number of streams and rivers in the area known for good fishing.

Spa Services

Massages, manicures, pedicures, and other spa services are available close by, including Thai Massage right across the street. Or the therapists can come to the B&B for an in-room massage. Please tell us what you are looking for, and we can call for appointments.

Artist Studio Tour - First Weekend in November

The annual Artists of Rappahannock Studio & Gallery Tour is held the first Saturday and Sunday in November every year, from 10AM-5PM, in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge.  Visit the studios of dozens of artists, many of them in their homes in the beautiful countryside, and tour more than a dozen galleries in the area. The Tour begins at the Fire Hall in “Little” Washington, Virginia, where you will be able to view representative artwork from all the studios and galleries and pick up a map with driving directions to all the locations.

Fall Foliage

In October and early November, the trees begin to get ready for winter, offering visitors sensational leaf peeping opportunities for which the area is famous. Start with the huge sugar maple directly across the street from the Ordinary and move toward Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. Bring your camera and a picnic lunch.

Driving Tours and Car Service

Don’t want to drive? We can recommend a car service with a sedan or limousine or classic car, or just a driver for your own car. This works well if you are touring wineries or just don’t want to drive after that special dinner.  Advance reservations are required - we recommend booking well in advance. Try Integrity Chauffeur for a designated driver service or a more traditional sedan or limousine, or Rappahannock Flyer if you are looking for a classic ride.
