General Information

Hopkins Ordinary was renovated in 2004 and 2005 under the guidance of state and federal historic preservation agencies, returning the internal stairs that had been removed and recreating the central hallway of the original design. Original features such as the parlor wainscot, crown molding and tongue and groove ceiling still exist, along with original window and door trim and warm heart pine floors throughout.  All original fireplaces were uncovered and renovated to allow for wood fires.

Besides the guest rooms, Hopkins Ordinary has abundant space for relaxation indoors and out.

There is a comfortable parlor with books, magazines, maps, games and a fireplace to warm you. In the dining room, which also features a fireplace, your hosts offer a breakfast that you will not soon forget. Beverages (including local wines) are offered in the afternoon. Port, cookies or other sweets are available in the evenings.

The two levels of wrap-around porches provide a space for each guest to take in the fresh country air outside their room, along with a common social area on the front porch. Wander through the Ordinary’s herb and vegetable garden to the Thornton River, which borders the property. The village of Sperryville and its many shops are steps away.
